Self-Assessments

Assessment 1-1 Readiness for the Leadership Role

Scoring a 59 on this self-assessment was actually a surprise. Since I am in charge of a small team of about 4 to 5 people within a catering business at home I expected my score to be a little higher. Seeing as this is only the first assessment then hopefully the next few will provide some more insight into why I may not be ready for such a role or how I could improve.

Assessment 2-1 How Self-Confident Are You?

The second self-assessment judged self-confidence and I believe that my score is an accurate reflection of myself. I scored 58 which means I have a high, desirable level of self-confidence.

Assessments 3-1 & 4-1

Even though these two assessments are in different chapters I think that they work together. The first, 3-1, assesses emotional expressiveness. My score for this indicates that I am a type of person who does not show much feeling, which is true. The second, 4-1, assesses whether you are task or relationship orientated. My score for this indicates that I am task-orientated which correlates with the score of assessment 3-1.

Assessment 4-2

Assessment 4-2 dealt with your personal style of leadership and whether you were more of an autocratic or participative leader. According to my results I am more of a participative leader which I had assumed would be the result seeing as I seek to include my team in many of the decisions that I have to make.

Assessment 4-3

This quiz assessed how prone you were to taking risks. Without knowing what the possible results were I already had an idea of what mine might be. My score ended up being a 49 which meant that I am a sensible risk taker and an adventurous person.

Assessment 5-1

This assessment dealt with situational perspective. I scored 68 which indicated that I have a strong situational perspective. As a leader with high situational perspective this means I can effectively deal with problems among my team.

Assessment 5-2

5-2 assessed the leader-member relationship and all of which applied to my most recent boss. Having a previous good relation with a leader will help to build that mindset within myself as a future leader.

Assessment 6-1

Leadership ethics was the topic of this chapter's assessment. My score was 35 which indicated that I have and average level of ethics. This may seem to be a not so great thing but there are times when it may work better to play 'office politics'.

Assessment 7-1

A manager with power can be good or bad, depending on how they use that power. Assessment 7-1 helps to point out what behaviors are classified as high or low in power and what categories they fall into.

Assessment 7-2

Assessment 7-2 dealt with tendencies to play office politics. My score of 16 indicated that I had an above average tendency to do so and also indicated a strong need for power. I would have to disagree with the strong need for power part as to say that sometimes it just pays to play the game.

Assessment 8-1

This assessment rated how influential you are. As my score was pretty high, thus indicating I had a strong influence, I was somewhat surprised as to how influential I may actually be. I don't see myself as that truly influential but according to this assessment I am more than I thought.

Assessment 8-2

Assessment 8-2 rated how ingratiating you are. Prior to getting my results I assumed a low score since I believe myself not to be an ingratiating person as I personally dislike the act. However, my results indicated that I may do it just slightly more than I think I do.
